HI All, I'm in need of replacing a torn CV joint boot again on the PHOENIX, my 82 Diesel Westy with a JX motor and 5 speed. I did this job a few years back, and have another torn boot. Who makes the best CV boot these days? thanks, |

Ive had no issues with my Rockford CV boots from Van Cafe- installed in early 2019. But others have, or are on another brand/supplier theyre unhappy with., and have gone to VW Tiquan model CV boot kits. Heres the thread link for you.

Not really because of two factors. Enviromental/chemical restrictions and the increased ozone levels in the atmosphere. _________________ Vanagon 83 diesel AAZ w/Giles injection, 5spd 4.57R&P+TBD and a '78 diesel Rabbit |

It's really a toss up these days. I've had cheap boots last as long as the good ones and vice-versa. One thing I have stopped doing is adding grease to the boot. In years past I figured it was a good idea to pack the CV with loads of grease (good) and also add some extra inside the boot (maybe not so good). With the quality of the rubber these days it's possible that the extra grease inside the boot is degrading the life of the rubber and anyway a well packed CV is all that's needed. The extra grease is just a waste of money and possibly shortening the life of the boot. _________________ Currently: '90 Syncro Westy 3 knob w/Zetec The information age has morphed into the age of disinformation and willful ignorance. I don't think any brand is good 100% of the time and buying more expensive boots guaranties nothing. I have replaced a lot of boots over the years, but the vast majority of miles was put on with boots that lasted a very long time, you just have to experiment until you find the right ones. |

With the post in this thread of not putting grease in the CV boots anymore... Wonder if the issue is the grease interacting with the boot material? Or...could the grease in the boot if it's not entirely packed with grease create a wobble inside as the grease spins around causing physical strain on the boot? Von Westy YouTube Channel |

T3 technique is offering this boot with a 5 year warranty. https://t3technique.com/collections/cv-parts-wheel-bearings-etc/products/hi-angle-100mm-cv-boot My experience with T3 has been good. Haven't used these boots, but have used some other products from T3 and they have worked great! |

Having had no boot (or CV) failures on two vans and well over 100,000 miles with a significant number of those miles on rough dirt Ive long wondered if theres a correlation between big suspension lift and boot failure. (Lift being harder on standard CVs is already obvious) The verbage on the T3 site seems to suggest there indeed is. Regardless, if ever needing to, Id buy the boots linked above for the same reasons the above post eludes to. "Adding power makes you faster on the straights. |

I've had no problems with these genuine VW boots. Stock ride height though. |

Ive had a change of heart in the quest of a quality boot. Getting ready last trip one boot was cracking. It forced me to pull both shafts, disassemble the joints, clean, inspect, new boots, fresh grease and a rotate. Was a good feeling heading out knowing the CVs were ready. Had the boot not cracked, Id have probably put another 7500 hard miles and worked a little more metal into old grease. Just another point of view. _________________ ☮️ K.T.24 |

Let's see... $25 5 yr warranty
VS $57 lifetime replacement warranty
HMMM that's not a straight forward one - I'd go with T3 Chris. ....actually, I've been going with the Autozone new CVs and have never had a boot fail in 10s of thousands of miles. www.SuperVanagon.com - some stuff I make |

Make yourself up a leather split boot that you can lace in place and attach with band clamps. Even the plastic from a plastic tote will do. Not good if you are doing stream crossing and the like though. Even a scrap from some Dickies cotton/polyester work pants get you back on the road. |

How much effort is the lifetime replacement? If you value you time, typically not much. Last edited by Wildthings on Yesterday 8:06 pm; edited 1 time in total |
